RANS riser recall
Nov 19th, 2008, 9:01pm

There has been a lot of discussion recently on BROL and the RANS Yahoo discussion group about some instances of riser pieces failing from stress, typically generated from pulling/pushing on the "chopper" style handlebars.  It seems to fail below the weld, shown by the thin, shiny line at the TOP of the weld in this photo.

RANS is offering to replace any welded risers with one-piece forged ones.  Mine failed a year ago, but not like this -- my threads stripped out from me pushing up on the handlebars a lot more than I should have.

If you have a Stratus XP with the chopper bars, take advantage of their offer... I'm sending the risers back from both our bikes.

On the other hand, I've just ordered a different riser and handlebar for my SXP.  Ever since I rode the Ti SXP at the RANS factory, I've been thinking about switching out to the bars that bike had.

The riser is the same as that on the XStream, but the handlebar is different, more like a "T"...   So, after a conversation with Kim at RANS, I've got the various pieces on order, as a birthday present to myself...   Cheesy

That riser and handlebar setup you're going to looks suspiciously like what I already have on my SXP.

No, RANS stuff was way different back in 2001, when this was made. The riser and handlebar came with Rose's Stratus, and Nelson had replaced them with the chopper bar setup that Rose still uses. This handlebar is actually a T, and slides down into the riser. I have no idea what model it was. But the geometry looks pretty close to what was on that ti SXP, and made the ti SXP feel very familiar to me.
