Paluxy Pedal
Oct 9th, 2007, 3:43pm

Anyone else going to the Paluxy Pedal this Saturday, Oct.13th?  I'll give "The Wall" another try this year but don't expect much more success even though I'm a little stronger and 10 pounds lighter body and 5 pound lighter bike - just too darned steep!

I'll be there.  I've ridden this great ride every year it's been held, which I belive this will be the 5th year.  Not sure if I'm riding the 80 mile or not.  My wife, Angie will ride the 30 mile, so I may ride the shorter 60 mile.  Last year, I was the 2nd rider to finish.  The guy who beat me cheated as he started at about the 10 mile mark.  I was in the lead pack when we came upon him so I had a chance to talk to him.  While everyone stopped at the top of the wall, where is there is a rest stop, I kept going.

Nelson - are you going to be able to make it?

I've been in Philly since Sunday, and I won't get home until Friday night.  So give me a call on my cell if you'd like to talk.

As tempting as it sounds,I'm staying local this weekend(Cleina rides Fri/Sat). Ray, Peggy & I are still on for the Italy 200K Brevet on the 20th.

Ray I tried to squeeze it in, but even the 60 mile would put me back too late, starting at 8:30, and 3 hours of driving is too much to manage.  I think I will end up trying out a new loop from my area.  I drew it up last night.

I'll probably be on the road before 0600, so should finish up in plenty of time for a very full afternoon of family and church events.
I'm pretty sure a small section is dirt/gravel, but I've driven or ridden almost all the rest.

Like Steve and Peggy I'm planning to do the Brevet on the 20th.

Take Care,
Nelson.

Hi Steve,

would love to hook up with you guys sometime!  Sounds like you're just 4-5 miles from me.  I need to finalize up a nice @200K loop and get it submitted to RUSA as a permanent.  Any good stores you recommend as controls.  I've stopped at couple in Celina and Gunter, have one I need to try out in Tioga, and need something in Sherman as well.

Take Care,
Nelson.

Nelson, there's the Tiger Mart in Gunter(Preston Rd/FM121) & another gas/convenience store just north of the Tiger Mart(& a few fast food restaurants). I know of a couple Gas/convenience stores in Tioga(I believe one is an Exxon/Chevron station). North of Tioga(on 377-Collinsville) is a Phillips gas station?convenience store. Pilot Point has several gas stations/convenience stores & few fast food restaurants.

Sherman? Are you thinking west of Sherman(Preston Rd/Hwy 56 area)or are you thinking more east toward town? There's a small independent gas station at Hwy56/Preston Rd(it looks kind rough). There are several gas station on Hwy 56 as you get closer to 75.
Whitesboro(east of Sherman on Hwy 56) has some gas/convenience stores.

We riding in Celina on Saturday. Maybe we'll see you up there. Come join us if you want.
