TTTT Course ride -- Sat or Sunday, July 14/15?
Jun 30th, 2007, 7:56pm

OK, Bud and Greg were bending my ears again about entering the 500-mile TTTT.  I'd definitely like to ride the course before making a decision, $150 entry fee notwithstanding...   How about a mid- or late-July repeat of what we tried to do last month, to do at least 3 laps?   If the 14th/15th doesn't work, how about the next weekend?

Sounds good to me. Is Charlie going to be back in town by then?

That will probably work for me, depending on the day I leave for Kentucky.  But I think that'll do.

I'm afraid I'm probably not going to be able to come this time either.  I'm currently planning on doing the LSR 400K out of Weatherford that day. You Guys have fun!

By the way who all is on the 500 team,   you have Bud, Greg, and Paul  and is it Charlie?

Right now it is Ray and I looks like.

Take Care,
Nelson.

Well, like I said, I haven't committed yet... but it's strangely.... compelling... undecided Huh Roll Eyes Shocked Wink

I would lean towards Sunday the 15th, just for slightly lighter car/truck traffic on the route.

Unfortunately, that may well knock Charlie out of participating.  Bud, does that mesh with your fishing plans, and Greg, when are you leaving town?

But, Saturday the 14th would also work for me, if it gets more people out.   Either way, like last time, let's attempt to plan a 7:30 AM rollout (yawn)...

Either day will work for me, but Sunday does not seem to be an especially good traffic day (those church going road rage ladies are still waiting for me, I suspect).

Ah, excellent point, since the "start" location is at a church... D'OH!  OK, we'll aim for that Saturday the 14th, 7:30AM rollout...

Are you bringing the Tica, Greg? During the real TTTT, you could actually ride the Tica during daylight hours, then the P-38 at night.

Not a bad thought to bring both bikes to the real race, but I don't see why I wouldn't be comfortable enough to just use the faster bike.   Time will tell as we do some more training rides out there.

I'll be bringing the TICA this go-round, yes.  I just need to get the brakes adjusted, and I'm still having a minor problem with the front derailleur, though that won't affect me out there on Saturday.   I'm jyst a little wigged out about riding something that fast with no front brake to speak of Smiley

Interesting point, Bud -- I was thinking along the same lines myself...  would the P-38 actually be a better bike for a hilly route, given the compressed climbing posture?

I don't think the P-38 would be faster, but it would offer better visibility at night. That course has got to be tough in the dark.

I don't think osture makes much difference for a hamstring-dominant rider such as myself.  I am faster uphill on the tica than on the p-38, and the aero dominance destroys the small rollers.  We'll find out for sure Saturday though, since my time on the p-38 was only 19.5mph.
