They just had a really neat show called "how things move" that discusses the evolution of the bicycle.

What is the AWE Channel? I don't watch TV very much!

I saw that show.  It was interesting how clear they made the reason for varying gears, that where originally there was this big wheel of the penny farthing with the pedals fixed...fast, but ungainly.  Being able to gear up and down allowed the wheels to shrink.  I wish I had such a simple explanation of this years and years ago.   Smiley
