Anybody out there ever done No Country for Old Men? I was thinking of doing the 383 miler and was wondering if any recumbents had ever tried those mountains out there.......

Adults should have fun so kids will want to grow up!

For every mile of road there's two miles of ditch.

I'd rather be sorry for something I did than for something I didn't do.

I've ridden a PAC tour through that area ..  roads used to be pretty bike friendly .. some shoulder debris and rumble strips but little traffic ..

Im a little jealous though thats a ride on my want list .. but I can't make it this year.

I registered for the NCOM 208 mile race today. I was going to bite off the 383 mile race, but relented. The 208 miler is basically a downhill century from Alpine to the Rio Grande at Lajitas and then back--an uphill century. Sounds fun for the first half--nightmare second half for recumbents. I'll let you guys know what it's like if I survive.

I had planned on doing it this year but with two months of little training decided against it.  Go get you some of that!

Theres a nice 8-10% grade around mile 70 on that route, about 1/2 mile long  ..   Its actually about the size of the "wall" in glenrose.   Thats the only thing I remember that was "interesting"

Remember to bring your index card at the bike-check on day one.

Yah, the thing is so short in duration compared to the entire ride that it doesn't show up on the ride profile, but there is a mention of it in the ride cue sheet--steep climb at 68.5 miles. Thanks for pointing that out to me MrWizard!!! Nice to know something like that beforehand!

Haha yes, I remember that one well. . the PacTour guys "forgot" to mention it ..  theres a lot of short climb before it to suck away your energy and then it just goes "up"   I managed to climb it on a P38 without tipping over, though near the top I felt like my feet were in the sky.

If I can change my plans and get home early on wednesday i'll come join you .. but I think the work daemons and the airline gods have conspired against me this year on that ride.     Its got some of the most amazing scenery out there. Good luck!

Wow, feet in the sky!!!???!!! That sounds daunting! I'd better warm up that small chainring!  If you are not able to make it, I'll write all about it here.
