Spare Tire Recommendations
May 11th, 2015, 4:21pm

I currently have 700x35 Kenda Kalientes on my bike. I will need to be ordering some spare tires/tubes before the Clarksville ride but do not have enough experience with the Kenda's yet to know about their durability. Any suggestions?

I don't think you can beat Schwalbe Marathon Supremes or Marathon Plus HR 440. I would have the Marathon Supremes on my Phantom, but they don't make it in 26" or 20" sizes. Just 700's. A set of Supremes would last at least 5,000 flat free miles, in my experience anyway. Good luck.

Thanks! I really like Schwalbe tires on my trike. I'm a big fan of the Marathon Racer but I've had some difficulty finding a good price on a folding Racer in a 700.  If I don't find one soon, I'll probably give the Supreme a try.

The Supreme is a folding tire also. Easy to mount and take off. They roll very well.

My experience with Kenda tires has been with frequent punctures.  Otherwise, they handled well--didn't keep them on long enough to judge their durability.  I can recommend the Marathon supremes, but they are costly.  Another 28-622 recommendation is the Continental Grand Prix Four Season; good rolling, good grip, reasonable puncture resistance, nice ride.  I got over 10,000 miles on the one on my Moose.

Thanks, gentleman. I found an excellent deal on a pair of folding Supremes on Amazon. They were listed as used but are really brand new tires with damaged boxes. Got them for under $48 each plus free shipping.
