Tour de Coffee -- WRL/Dallas, Sat. Sept 20
Sep 2nd, 2014, 4:22pm

Some friends of mine own a coffee roasting company downtown, called Full City Rooster -- they're located at 1810 S. Akard, near Akard and Corinth, south of the downtown freeway canyon.  They do tours, etc. on Saturdays, and I thought it might be fun do stop by as a group, and drink some coffee, and even maybe buy some beans/ground while we're there.

http://fullcityrooster.com/index.php?route=information/information&informati on_id=4

However, given the location, I've been trying to figure out a starting point and route plan that makes sense...  and this is what I've come up with at the moment.

We would meet at the south end of WRL, and ride the Santa Fe trail over into downtown...  then make our way through downtown over to Riverfront Drive and explore the pedestrian bridge and Trinity trail paths for a bit...   then ride back into downtown to go to Full City Rooster...  then ride back to WRL.  Who knows where we'll go?

Given a casual, exploratory, NO DROP pace, and random pedestrian traffic and stoplights, and stopping for the coffee tour, this might be a "four-hour tour"...  but that's only an estimate, and I have no idea how many miles we would end up with (but probably less than 30)

If this sounds like an entertaining idea, chime in -- let's plan a rollout time of 8:30 for Saturday 9/20, from the south parking lot on Winstead, down the street from the 7-11.  Bring your wallets, and let's do a Tour de Coffee!!

Be sure to stock up on your favorite antihistamine: ragweed is 8 feet tall in places and just about to bloom...

It is starting to bloom.  I'll be at the time trials, otherwise it sounds like a nice ride.

Pencil me in as tentative. If I'm in town, I'll do it, sounds like fun.  I even have a sealed coffee mug made to fit in a bottle holder, so I'm all set!

I'm game, but what sort of bike security will be available for when we go in for the tour?

We'll just bring lotsa cables...  or we can very possibly bring the bikes inside, I'll check on that...

Paul, I've talked to Carolyn R and we'll probably be on trikes.  She's just a 3-wheel kind of girl.  We'll lock trikes outside. If nothing happens between now and then,  see you at WRL.

Tour de Coffee is ON for this Saturday...  8:30 rollout from the parking lot at the south end of WRL...  Casual pace, no drop!  Bring some dough, in case you find some coffee you like!!!

If the dam parking lot is full, default to the parking lot across from the boat houses (drive to the end of the road that leads to the red brick building with the tall smoke stack), and ride your bike or trike down the rail-to-trail portion of the path to the dam parking lot. An alternative would be to park at Randall Park, across from Woodrow Wilson High School on Glasgow Dr., and take the Santa Fe Trail to the dam parking lot (a little bit over 2 miles). It's a fast ride, because it's downhill almost all the way. I plan to ride down the Trail from home.
