Note from the TTTT
Oct 2nd, 2012, 9:38am

Saw this post on the LSR discussion board, from a TTTT participant... cracked me up....

I'm glad someone started a volunteer 'thank you' thread. They deserve a big
pinkie salute from all the riders. They are as much heroes as any of us who
broke course records or our own personal bests. Some of my favorite
volunteer moments:

1. FINDING NEMO - the lights/RV guy at the top of the hill in Nemo. Thanks
for being there. Even though your lights signalled the beginning of the
most ass-ablating section of chip seal on the entire course.

2. POSH RV - at the top of the hill at mile 10 ['County Line Hill' -- PB]. A hill which grew steeper
on every lap, defying the laws of nature. Your playful lighting display
made me smile when I least felt like smiling. I'd like to see your house at
Xmas. And thanks for allowing me into your immaculately clean bathroom to
tend to damage done on the ass-ablating section of chip seal road. You are
gods to me.

3. WATER RV - guy with all the Gatorade who allowed me to rehydrate and* *pee
behind his RV every 2-3 laps. Talk about one-stop shopping. Above and
beyond.

4. KIDDIE RV - kids with hula hoops at top of the last hill before final
descent into Glen Rose. Love you. And your parents. For being bad parents
and letting you stay up way past your bedtime.

5. FINISH LINE FOLK - for getting it right.

And everyone else who got wet and helped make this great event happen. I
never had time to learn your names... I'm sorry about that... but do know
there's a special place in my heart for you.

All the best,
Vaune Davis

I agree, three cheers for the volunteers!

I do have to say though that I did not find any of the road ass ablating. Then again, maybe I am just used to it. Or, maybe it bacause I was on the P-38.  Smiley

Too, I only did one lap so I do respect all those tough enough to ride everything from the six hour up to and including the 500 mile.

I did not get a chance to meet anyone from the forum out there, maybe next time!

I actually had to laugh after talking with her during the race, she really thought that the Nemo stretch was some of the nastiest roads she's ever ridden.  To me, that's some of the smoothest chip I've even seen, especially for something that's less than a year old.

As for the Johnson County hill, I will agree with her.  When I raced the 500 years ago I swore that they were airing it up during the night.

I experienced my first charley horse (ever) on that hill about a third of the way up. I was also trying to deal with chainsuck that occurred after trying to go from the 54T to the 36T ring and missing the shift, winding up between the 28T and the 36T.  I thought a rabid zombie armadillo had sunk itself into my left calf! Luckily I was able to hobble off the bike, pull the chain from between the rings, pound the H-E-double toothpick out, ehr, I mean massage my calf (into submission) and get going again. It probably didn't cost me more than 3-5 minutes, not enough to have affected the placing outcome.

My favorite volunteer moment was, On one of my last very rainy laps a volunteer stepped out into the rain with a bottle of sunsceen and ask if I need any. That made my laugh out loud to the finish line.
Steve and I have so many great memories from the TTT.
From our first every time trial  Steve ride on a team with Bud, Paul, and Greg. Steve and I ride on a team with Bud and Ray. To having Mark and Linda crew for us on our solo 500 races. Nelson for so many miles logged with us. Bryan and Shellene for great friends.
Angie for being so braving and facing that course year after year.

I don't know what next year will bring, but the last weekend in Sept. my heart will be with you all at the TTT.
