Trinity Trail Ride
Oct 27th, 2010, 8:39am

Ken and I have been talking about getting a Trinity Trail ride together.  Smiley

This Saturday (10/30/10) the weather is good. How bout we meet at the YMCA at the Benbrook Dam about 09:00 AM and ride to the Ft.Worth Stock Yard, have lunch, then return to YMCA ?  Smiley

This is about a 30 mile ride round trip +/- , all paved trail.

Directions: Take I20 to Hwy 377(Benbrook exit) go south 5 red lights, turn left on Winscott Rd., YMCA is 1 block on the right.
We will meet at the south end of the parking lot.

I have been wanting to get out to the Trinity Trail and ride it since I have never been.  Unfortunately, I will be on kid duty all this weekend while my wife is out for a wedding.  If this date changes at all, keep it posted b/c I am definately interested!!!

I may join you guys for this one.  I've barely ridden since August thanks to recent health issues and I currently have a bad case of bronchitis that I'm hoping will clear up by weekend.  If I can breathe, I'm in.  Maybe Alexis too if you can can handle a slow pace.  She's around a 12mph rider.

Well, it wasn't the ride that affected me so much as whatever other issue it was - m0st likely a weird prolonged side effect of an antibiotic I was taking, but it seems to have slowly gone away.  I've ridden up to 40 miles now with no apparent side effects so I think I'm ok.  As soon as I'm over this wretched cough I'll be hitting the big miles again and we'll see.

The early year bugs must be going around. I have a horrible cold that has turned into the worst bronchitis I've had in years. I called in sick for work today. I'm not sure if I'll be riding this weekend, either.

I always get something this year.  I had a touch of it over a week ago and it started to go away and I started riding.  Then I spent two days outdoors with school stuff and now it feels like I'm trying to breathe underwater.  I missed Monday myself.  Get better quick, Bud!

I'll take a shot at directions from the TRE to the meeting spot.  From the station, take 9th street down to Throckmorton street.  Turn right on Throckmorton till it "T's" into Belknap street.  Make a left on Belknap and then the first right on Taylor.  Stay on Taylor till it dead ends in a parking lot.  There's a VERY steep hill heading down into that parking lot, so watch you speed.  You don't want to crash into the cactus filled landscaping in the middle of the parking circle (I can attest to by experience!).  Right north of that lot you can pick up the Trinity trail system.  Where you come out of the parking lot on to the trail there is a bridge.  DO NOT cross that bridge.  Instead, make a left on the trail, cross another bridge a short distance down the trail, and then make a left after crossing the bridge.  Stay on the trail approximately 8 miles and you'll come to a low water crossing which you should cross and then the trail will dump you out on to Bellaire street.  Make a right and stay on Bellaire until you come to the first stop sign.  To your right at the stop sign will be the entrance to another bike trail.  Take it about 1.5 miles where it will end in a parking lot.  Take the road up the hill leading out of the parking lot.  At the top of the hill go straight across to pick up another bike trail.  This bike trail will meet up with Winscott road at a light.  Take Winscott to your left and a little over 1/2 mile there's the YMCA on your left.
My best guess is the total distance from the TRE to the YMCA is about 14 miles.  If that's too far, you could meet them at the bridge near the Taylor street parking lot (the one I said NOT to cross) and continue with the group from there up to the stockyards, maybe 3 miles or so.
