This is a forward from Jane Knight TEXAS CATRIKE RALLY March 13-14, 2010 Dallas/Ft.Wort Worth The inaugural Texas Catrike Rally is fast approaching for the Cats that would like to gather and meet and share some fun riding. Details are being hammered out now, but this is the skeleton game plan: Saturday, March 13: Key Largo is our leader for this ride. He is a VERY seasoned rider for this area. He will guide us all day and make this a really fun ride for all. Whatever your level, Key has a plan for you! The ride will begin at noon (12:00 p.m.) at 3348 W. Lawther Dr., Dallas, Tx. You can Google this or Mapquest it for exact directions from where you are coming from. We will start off riding to the Sonic drive in for lunch. So plan on eating lunch right off the start with us. No need to worry about where we will, park the Cats while we eat . This is going to be hilarious! Bring your cameras. From there, we will start our ride around White Rock Lake. The ride around the lake takes about 45 minutes to an hour. After that, Key suggests either repeating the lap (White Rock Lake NEVER gets old to ride!), or venture out for a little more challenging ride. Key knows this area like the back of his hand, and can design a ride for just about any riding level. Saturday evening, a meet up at Barbec's restaurant to compare note and swap stories is planned. This is a sit down restaurant. Some of us want to do a night ride around the lake after dinner, so plan on that if you want. Sunday, March 14th - Patti Erickson is our guide for the Sunday leg. She has made many trips over to Ft. Worth to chart out the best route for us and check out all the details. She has done a fantastic job getting things charted for us! We will be over in Ft. Worth for the morning ride on the Trinity Trail. The day starts with breakfast at Ol'South Pancake House at 8:30 a.m. . The address for that is 1509 South University Drive Fort Worth, TX 76107-9571 We will start riding those pancakes off at 9:30. The start point for the ride is: Trinity Trail trailhead, immediately adjacent to the intersection of Riverfront Dr. and Rogers Rd. The trailhead is visible from the intersection and we will park along the south side of Riverfront Drive. If you Google - 1844 Rogers Road, Fort Worth. TX - the map that comes up will show you the intersection and will also show you the location of the Ol' South Pancake House, just a few blocks to the northeast. Unlike White Rock, this is not a loop. We will be doing an out-and-back ride from Fort Worth to Benbrook and back.. The ride is mostly flat, with one low river crossing. This does not involve getting in the water but you will have a climb back up, each direction. The ride is around 18 miles. If anyone is interested, there are several really good restaurants in the area for lunch after the ride. For those who don't have to say good bye to head back to their part of the state, there is another ride that can be done about the same distance, in the opposite direction. The Trinity Trail is a GREAT ride -- should be so much fun! This is not a structured, organized ride. No support, no rest area stops, no t-shirts. But also - NO COST. This is a chance for those who love their recumbent trikes (bikes) to get together and share some fun riding. There is no "ride hotel." Wherever you want to stay is up to you. My husband and I are heading to Ft. Worth Saturday night after we ride to spend the night. There is going to be a marathon around White Rock Lake on Sunday, March 14, so lodging may be a problem to find in that area. Greg and I wanted to be close to the ride start on Sunday morning as well. Daylight Savings Time begins Sunday, March 14 at 2 a.m., so we will be losing an hour of sleep! Since we have no support for this ride, we are making sure no one gets separated from the group (unless you WANT to). Whatever your riding level, you will NOT be left behind. We will have phone numbers for you to call should you get separated from the group. This is the general plan at this time. Unless we can think of something else Email me at texascatrikers@aol.com to let me know if you plan to join us for this super fun get together (so we will know to hang around and wait for you before we start!). Email me with your questions or comments. Look forward to seeing y'all in March!
