RBENT Airport Ride, Sun. Mar 21 POSTPONED
Feb 28th, 2010, 7:04am

(Postponed till April 11 -- see later posts -- PB)

Let's get whoever together and do an RBENT version of the GDB Airport ride again, on Sunday morning March 21...   but including some socializing time before and after!

We'll have two distance/speed groups available -- a 50+ mile group that will roll at 18-20ish, and a ~40 mile group that will have a somewhat slower pace, 15-16 -- but both are intended to be "no drop"

For pre-ride socialization purposes, people can meet at Corner Bakery on the southEAST corner of Preston/Forest at 7:15-7:30ish,  for coffee and breakfast, if you're so inclined (reclined)... Then at 8:10 or so, we can start pre-ride prep, for an 8:30AM rollout from that same Corner Bakery lot.  The longer distance group will leave about 5 minutes before the shorter group.

Both groups will do the GDB airport ride route, which goes across Northaven, up to Valley View, up to Belt Line, then down Freeport to the airport Shell station for a rest stop.   The ~40 mile group will turn around at that point, taking essentially the same route back to the start.  The 100K group will take a short break, do a 3/4 loop around the airport COUNTERCLOCKWISE, and take Walnut Hill back eastbound, eventually tying into Merrill and Northaven, finishing back at Forest/Preston.

We should all finish within about 30 minutes of each other, around 12:30.  Lunch will be a group decision location, given the selection of restaurants at that intersection -- I like Scotty P's or Sonny Bryan's, myself, but I could be coerced elsewhere.

C'mon out!

I really liked that place we went to last yar - bar non or bar 8 bbq - whatever it was.

If I'm not in Houston that weekend, then Alexis and I are both in.  It's the end of hellweek so I can't say until she gets hold of her friends down there and sets the plan.

I'm sorry I won't be able to make this one and I was just saying to Urbinrider that we (RBent) hadn't had a ride together in a while.   Must celebrate my mom's birthday with her and she's out of town so everyone have a great time.

Hey I would like us consider added something interesting to this event:

http://affiliates.uso.org/DFW/files/WelcomeHome.pdf

Every morning a jet arrives at DFW airport from Iraq with soldiers.

The local USO coordinates an opportunity to greet the troops as they arrive.  Smiley

Interesting thought, but no way to safely get to the gate/terminal on bikes (or store/park them securely, etc.)...

This ride is still on for next Sunday...   current weather forecast is scattered showers on Saturday, so we'll keep an eye on things during the week.  If significant rain winds up waiting until Sunday morning to arrive, we'll postpone.  Hope it get here faster, or not at all....

Got any particular participants intending to come out and ride?

Well, they're calling for it to be 32 degrees Sunday morning. Call me a wuss if you must, but if it's 32 degrees Sunday morning, I probably won't be there.

Yep, just saw that forecast...  I'm officially POSTPONING this ride, because that's just a bit too chilly for most folks!!!  Unfortunately, my weekends up to Easter are pretty booked, so I'm going to set the ride for Sunday morning, April 11th (the day after the Lancaster Rally)...
Same time and activity schedule -- if people aren't totally worn out by the Lancaster Rally, c'mon out!
