Boy's Road Trip - Tulsa Tough Jun 4,5,6
Jan 18th, 2010, 10:19pm

Guys, we didn't have a road trip this summer, in spite of having so much blasted fun tripping up to the RANS factory last year.

Well, I say we hit Tulsa Tough this year.  They turn the whole city of tulsa into a cycling hotbed with crit racing, a festival, and the famous tulsa tough ride, in which you get a special jersey if you finish both centuries in under 5 hours apiece.

And weird as it sounds, Tulsa is an AWESOME city.  The ride and route is spectacular, nestled in the foothills of the ozarks.

Whatdya think?

Sounds like fun, but I'll be heading out to Oceanside that weekend, as will a few others.

Sounds promising!!!  Don't think I can do two centuries under 5 on the SXP, but count me in for now...

Wanted to bring this back to the front. AWESOME ride and scenery, fantastic bike friendly town, and lots of events.  Tulsa even has a bar downtown dedicated to and run by cyclists:  The SoundPony:

I should be able to carry two bikes besides my own, so a carpool is possible.

I'd be interested, the only thing going on around here then is the Mesquite ride which I've done 3 times already.

From the section on the website that talks about the two days of centuries under five hours each:  I was tempted, till I saw this...   Shocked

We admire your curiosity and have two days of centuries with over 5,000 feet of climbing each day. Yes, all in and around Tulsa, Oklahoma. So bring your curiosity and go fo it. If you can pull it off, we'll give you a jersey to prove it. Trust us, they're not easy to get.

You can do the centuries without going for the jerssey.  The ride goes in and out of the foothills of the Ozarks, so it's beautiful.  There are definitely some wicked hills though.

I lived in Tulsa for about 8 months before coming to FW.  I left my recumbent in Midland and rode my upright around Tulsa.  There are some incredibly hilly routes there I wouldn't even think about doing on a bent.  There are also lots of serious upright riders, and quite a few bents, but no one I knew in some of you guys class.  You'll be glad you went, it's an awesome biking locale.

I'm in for this one....  got the go-ahead from spouse and work...  When do we leave???   Smiley

I'm not going to attempt the "Deuce" for the jersey, but will plan to ride both century days.  Anybody want to ride along, rando-style?

I emailed about day-of registration, and got this:

Hi Paul,

We'll have on-site registration for the rides on Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning. Cost will be $40.00 each day or $70.00 for both days. Register now through Thursday June 3 online for $30.00 each day or $50.00 for both.

Thanks!

Jim Beach, Rides Director

This is good, it gives us until literally the day before to check the weather forecast before paying the registration fee at the $50 level!!!!

Greg, have you looked into accomodations yet?  I'd like to ride up with you.

I haven't yet.  The hotel listed on the website was pricey but nice.  I'll look into some options this weekend.  Mark, are you still in?
