GASP 2009
Apr 13th, 2009, 4:54pm

The GASP ride is coming up on 05/02/09 (less than three weeks). Curious to know if bent's from DFW might be going. This is the 100th anniversary for Shiner and they have redone the route so that it's 100M (was 85M or so). I made this ride a couple of years ago and it was a challenge (predominate south winds) but the reward at the end (Shiner beer and git pickers) is awesome. Maybe someone more familiar with the starting area setup could suggest a place to meet.

I've always wanted to go, even though I've heard support on the actual ride is limited.  It always falls on a weekend I can't go for some reason.  I expect this year to be the same.  Next year I think I'll make it though, since this will be my last year coaching baseball.

Having been support on the BASH (Same ride out of Austin, just add in San Antonio and Houston), I don't think I'd use the term limited, but over-worked.  Because of the party at the end, there are a lot of riders who want to do this event and they aren't ready for it  (I ended up getting drafted for SAG, since the official vehicles were full, and I was driving to the finish anyway after my rest stop closed).  Of course, since they've gone back to the GASP ride, the support may be better (supporting 3 rides at the same time had to have been a logistics nightmare).

Well, it's not a problem for me anyway, I mean once you've done enough randonnees  I think you don't worry too much about a measly 100 miles  with only nominal support.  Grin
