OBS Streak
Sep 7th, 2008, 7:27pm

After Rose got off work Saturday afternoon, we headed to Oklahoma City and spent the evening visiting my sister. I got up Sunday morning and headed to Mitch Park in Edmond (16 miles from my sister's place), and rode the OBS Streak.

The first 40 miles of this ride were constant rollers. Most were not as long as those on the Goatneck route, but they were plenty enough to have a hill slug like me huffing and puffing. The route flattened out a bit for the last 25 miles.

This was a very good ride. I don't know exactly how many rode it, but it had to be several hundred. There were a few rough stretches of road and some chipseal, but most of the roads were good, and the traffic control was very good. Johnny Corino's provided a pasta lunch at the end of the ride, and that truly hit the spot. I left just as the live band was getting started.

It was great seeing you again, Trey, and meeting Mrs oumed. Trey also has two of the cutest kids you've ever seen. I ended up with 64.5 miles at a 17.3 mph average. The Garmin showed 2650 feet of climbing.

Bud,

It was great seeing you again at the OBS Streak.  Regarding my cute kids, it's obvious they take after their mother!   Smiley

I enjoyed the ride and especially the overcast skies during the first half that kept the temperature down.  I think the new wheel cover discs on the back of the Corsa did help some.  In the near future I'll also be adding some Q-rings that are sitting idle in the garage.  Looking at the GPS data, I finished with a 17.8 mph average which is an improvement over the 16.2 mph average achieved the first time I rode the route.  Of course the first time I rode it was just after the HHH and my legs were shot.  I'm still fightining a hip flexor strain so further improvements can be made.

After dehydrating at about the 80 mile point of the HHH and cramping a little, in the OBS Streak I probably took in too much fluid as evidenced by the frequent need for bathroom stops.  Roll Eyes But since I didn't cramp or bonk it was worth it and next time I'll have a better idea about how much fluid intake is required.  I also used Endurolytes for the first time on this ride and that may have helped as well.  I'm still learning.

I hope to see all the Rbenters on future rides.  We sold the wife's road bike last week and now we are considering a Giro 20 TT for her.  Hopefully next year she will be able to attend some rides as well.

Trey
