OBS Streak - Edmond, OK
Aug 27th, 2008, 7:36pm

This ride is on Sunday, Sept. 7, in Oklahoma.   Trey (oumed) who we met at HHH, has offered to put us up on Saturday night, so if anyone is interested in carpooling up there and riding, I'm all for it.

For Rbenters that might be considering the OBS Streak ride I have posted GPS data from my ride today on the actual 100K course.  Click the link and after the page loads scroll down so that just the map shows on your screen and click "show elevation" in the "route info" box on the right hand side of the screen then click "OK" when the next box opens up.  After clicking "OK" a transparent box opens near the bottom of the map and is bordered in green.  Click on the green border and resize it just a little bit and then the elevation profile for the route will appear.  Compared to the HHH this is a hilly ride.  At the 52 mile mark on the 100K course I made a left turn that should have been made at the 53 mile mark but the total distance ended up the same as planned.

If you plan to come for the ride we have room to sleep 2 on a sleeper sofa and at least 6 others on air mattresses.  The ride benefits the White Fields Boys Home and starts at 7:30 am Sunday morning September 7th.  Saturday afternoon and evening can be spent at our house if you desire.  Saturday at 2:30 we'll have plenty of food and OU Football on the big screen but other televisions are available for those who may wish to watch Texas, aTm and other schools of regional interest.

It's a quick trip up I-35 to Edmond, OK.  Send me a PM with any questions you may have.  We hope to see you for the Streak!

Am I looking at something wrong? The elevation chart I see shows just 302 feet of climbing in 64 miles. That would be even flatter than HHH.

Bud,

What you can't see on the elevation chart is the constant frequeny of the hills.  The chart sort of averaged the hills.  The actual GPS output in the Garmin Training center depicts this much more effectively.  The grades are often 3% to 7% and up to 12% in the first half and then more like rollers on the second half.  I'll try to do a screen capture of the Garmin Training Center output and post it if I can figure out how to do it.

Here are the screen shots of the Garmin GPS data output from the HHH route and the OBS Streak route.

Notice the elevation profile for the OBS Streak compared to the HHH, particularly the first 30 miles.  Then note the 2446 feet of total ascent for the OBS Streak over 64.5 miles versus 1540 feet of total ascent for the HHH over 101.5 miles.   Wink

I see that. It seems strange that MapMyRide didn't show it.

I might be interested in this.  I expect to ramble at my own pace... Knowing you Greg this would be a Wrabbit-Chasing and Hill Pounding occasion for you so I wouldnt expect you to slow down for me.

Greg what did you have in mind for Car pooling?

Otherwise Maybe I can get Lucky-Mark to Car Pool.  He is a vetern of OK rides.

You might also note the 16.2 mph average for the Streak route.  Sad

Gotta work on those hills.  Of course with traffic control during the actual ride one will not need to stop or slow down every mile at the intersections and hopefully the retained momentum will help with the next hill.   Smiley

Trey what bike did you roll on HH100?  A 20+mph is very respectible.   The cooler weather probally helpped everyones time a little.

Terry,

I was on the Corsa for the HHH.  Brad has my old Baron.  I think the Corsa's a keeper, especially if Bud helps me set up one of his quick recline seat adjust systems to help out with the hills.  I love that idea.

I am way overdue for a visit to my sister in Oklahoma City, so I will be going up there to visit her on the 6th, and doing this ride on the 7th. Anyone else going to make it?

Terry:  Darn.  I was curious to see your converted Baron in action.  Maybe we can meet on another ride.

Bud:  Are you still coming up for the OBS Streak?  Are you staying with your sister or do you need a place to stay?

All:  Anyone else up for the somewhat hilly OBS Streak ride?  Wink
