Recycle your coroplast
Aug 20th, 2008, 5:03pm

I'm building some grocery panniers for the Fusion while I wait for the Mrs. to decide what brake levers fit her hands the best, that come at a price she wants to buy at Tongue So if your neighbor has a yard sign for a political candidate you don't like I'm recycling coroplast Grin Seriously, after the election, keep your eyes peeled for loser's signs and grab them so I will have something to make the grocery getter's panniers from. I'm going to be laminating the coro with aluminum foil between the layers to make it a better insulator so the groceries will stay cool longer (and so the panniers won't buckle from the load). I'm designing this pair to carry gallon milk jugs, or 10 lb. bags of flour or sugar, so I'll need lots of coroplast.

I used to get lots of signs since right as you come into double oak there is a 3 ways stop sign and there is our front yard for everyone to see. There was a time we had a near infinite supply of material, mostly cheap poster board though, but I guess they all learned and no one really puts signs out there anymore  Sad

I should let whoever wants to put a nice 4x8 sign up do it just so I can have free coroplast.. Sorry sir it keeps blowing over  Cool

Bump. There are lots of signs out there, take notes of where and midnight after the election they become trash, or pannier making fodder.

OK it's almost go time for recycling coroplast. I checked my neighborhood and most of the campaign sings are vinyl instead of coro, but there are a few of the really big ones that are coro. Remember to wait until after the polls close (7PM in TX) before recycling the signs.

Well, all the big coro signs that were within walking distance of my house were gone by the close of polls on Election Day, was anyone else able to score some free coro?

OK if anyone wants to make some coro-gami panniers and knows the approximate size of what they will have to put in them I can show you how to make them.

Supplies-
lots of coroplast
mounting bolts to fit your rack brazeons
Aluminum bar stock, about 1/16" by 1" and twice as long as one pannier or 2 lengths as long as one pannier if you don't have a saw Wink Note this can be angle stock if you don't mind limiting the bottom of your panniers. Angle stock will provide slightly more support than bar stock
#8 machine screws long enough to fit through 2 layers of your coro, plus the aluminum bar stock, about 1 per inch of pannier length times 2 panniers
#8 hex nuts, same number as screws
#8 washers, twice as many as the number of screws
contact cement
Optional aluminum foil for insulated grocery carriers
Box cutter
Needle nose pliers

Let me know and I'll do a class
