KaPow! is never good...
Aug 5th, 2008, 8:41pm

Was going to hit the popsicle ride after work today, but when wheeling the bike around earlier I had heard a loud Kapow! and I at first assumed it was a spoke but a cursory inspection showed all was good, and I was short on time and saved the rest of the inspection for later.  So before the ride a shook and prodded all bolts and parts and found nothing so I mounted up.  First Pedal stroke had the seat shoot backward. So I went AhHa I broke the tensioning bolt, not a big deal.  But nope a closer inspection revealed the true culprit.

I stopped off at Plano Cycling and talked to Rick.  He's calling Bacchetta for me tomorrow, and if necessary will give me a spare, so hopefully rolling again by the weekend.  But another item you B guys might want to inspect.

Take Care,
Nelson.

That sure looked like a fatigue failure to me, but not knowing the material I will have to defer to the factory with their superior knowledge.

Nelson, my friend, you can have your choice of the Ti Aero or Ti V3 this weekend.

Thanks Ray that's very generous, but I hope I can get or borrow a part from Plano Cycling in time to get it repaired.  I might be to nervous on something that nice!  How did Angie do on the V3? did she like it?

slapped some fenders on the new SS last night and rode it in this morning.  Still tweaking to be done, but its fun.  I'm considering one of the CETMA front racks to go with my stout low trail fork.

Nelson those racks are on my short list of upgrades for my xtracycle. It would be really nice to get some stuff out front on that thing.

Hopefully they can get that delrin clamp all sorted out. I am afraid to tighten mine too much due to previous experience on an overtightening the clamps on a BikeE. Led to a sudden  seat rail failure so mine is probably kinda loose and hopefully I avoid that.

Yeah Rick fixed me up with a clamp from an unbuilt Corsa today, so slapped it on there tonight and dialed the Corsa back in!  Like Willie says "On the Road Again"....

Ah Ray ,I think my seat clamp is broken too...I'll ride your Ti Aero so it doesn't feel left out from all the attention the V-3 is getting now!!!

There definitely seems to be a proportional relationship between the magnitude of the sound an item makes when it breaks and the how much its gonna cost to fix it.  Bonus dollars if it continues to make ugly noises!  (I'm thinking of a certain carbon aero incident!)

Take Care,
Nelson.
