About 5 or more years ago a guy named browning, grandson of the gun people invented a electric shifter for the front derailleur. It ran on a nine volt battery and sounded real neat.
There was a big splash in the news and then very little. Later I asked a RBM guy and he said the shifter came out on high end mountain bikes for one year then disappeared.

You know how the Web is, anything more than a couple months old is likely to be lost, and these links were from 2004...
