Derailler protection
Jul 1st, 2008, 6:37am

Folks,

Is there something on the market, like a bracket or rail, that protects a derailler system against a right side fall?  I'm thinking that it would mount on the rear frame and extend over the derailler system to serve that function.   Maybe rigid panniers would serve this purpose?? ....or a right side training wheel??

Thanks,
Travis

My daughter has a bike that came with a metal cage (similar to a water bottle cage, but flat instead of round) which protects her derailleur from falls. I don't know if it is something you can buy, but I'll try to get a photo of it and post it for you to see.

That's an interesting idea, although it might need to be something that goes several inches front to back, to protect the derailleur across it's entire length of travel...  and stiff, so it doesn't get shoved into the D anyway.  Tough to mount something securely, since it hangs down below the frame, but an idea worth tinkering with.
