Handcycle for Sale - Get an upper body workout!
Jun 18th, 2008, 5:26pm

I know ya'll ride rBents, but I also know at least one other person who has dared to try a handcycle besides myself.  For anyone who might be interested, a friend of mine is selling is Freedom Ryder.  Here's what he says about it:

"I purchased it new from Freedom Ryder about 9 years ago for around $2200. It has a 20-speed Shimano gear set. The tires are in good shape, and I also have a spare. The frame is very strong and designed to support someone up to 250 lbs.  I rode it in a TourDallas and MS150, so I know it can take the punishment.  I can be very reasonable on the price."

Greg...it's got 21 gears!!!  Maybe you could keep up with me?

I've got a beautiful photo he sent and will be happy to put you in touch with him.  If anyone is interested, give me a shout.  Please feel free to pass this along.

You never know, turtle - post the photo!  I almost bought a lightning handcycle on ebay, but it was going just outside the range I wanted to pay.

There's a program called WoundedWarriorProject that helps soldiers to get back to being active after coming back from the gulf missing limbs.  I know of at least 2 guys down in the San Antonio area that are part of this program that could use something like this.  If he's not in a huge hurry to get it sold, I'd like to see if I can get some people together to come up with the money and purchase it for them to use.

Shoot me a PM if you think we might work something out.

This model is no longer made.  Here's a link to the site:  http://www.freedomryder.com/  I used to have an earlier model, but very much like this one.  I'd say it weighed about 35 lbs or so.  Not nearly as heavy as what I ride now.

I noticed the leg area is different than the one I had.  The one I have (and have on my current handcycle) is adjustable.  If he doesn't have those, I'm sure they could be switched out.  I do like that front bumper.  Would be great in a potential "crash."

Do you know if this is still for sale?  I emailed the seller, but never got a response.

He told me you contacted him.  I'll email him myself and give him a verbal "kick" in the arse.  I know he went out of town for a week, but that's still no excuse in my book for not responding.

Thanks for the "heads up"!

Thanks Turtle, it turns out he had a good reason for not getting back to  me yet, and it looks like we may have something in the works.  More to follow...
