Suggestions for organizing rides...
Jan 11th, 2008, 10:12am

...JUST ORGANIZE ONE!

Obviously not everybody is able (or wants) to do 50, 75, 100+ mile rides at the 15-16 or higher pace that is typically kept on those jaunts.  But as spread out as this group is across the area, it's also difficult to justify driving a lot of miles to do a 10-20 mile casual ride, which is perhaps part of why we haven't created a "regular" RBENT short/casual ride series.

Joe has been active in posting about riding shorter distances in River Legacy in Arlington (which is a very nice park for riding), and he is always appreciative of company.  Be Like Joe:  Don't be afraid to be a "ride organizer" -- when you're planning to go out for a ride, whether it's at a park, in your neighborhood, or wherever, all it takes to potentially get some company is to post the following details in the "Upcoming Rides" section:

Where (departure spot)
When (rollout)
How Far
How Fast (typical flat cruising speed)
Other particulars you want to share

If it's a nonstop 20 miles at 10 mph, so be it!  If it's 20 miles with breaks every 5 miles, but those 5 miles are sprints, so be it!  If it's a "Donut Ride," so be it!  And if it's something you do on a regular basis, consider making it a "Monthly Event" posting.

If you wind up still riding solo, oh, well -- but you may get some compadres!  In any case, YOU are the Ride Leader -- And anyone joining in your ride should be aware of the Ride Leader's Credo:

"If you go off the front and lose us, it's your fault"

Have fun, and remember to post about how your ride went!
