Glad to hear you are healing so quickly and with so little pain. I was telling your story to a friend of mine and she informed me that she too had a lobe of a lung removed. (Whats a lobe here and there eh?) She said it was an extremely painful surgery and recovery. You really are doing great. You posted your mph ave. and its as fast as my overall average for the last two years! By the way, have you lost weight? You may turn out like Lance, lighter and stronger after the surgeries (and tons of training). Keep up the good work!
Richard
Yes, I can testify to the fact that it's very painful surgery. A 10 inch incision between your ribs is just no fun, any way you slice it (pun intended). All the severed muscles and nerves cause strange pain, numbness, and twitches. Stepping outside even gives me chills up and down the incision. Coughing is excruciating pain for a number of days, and you end up with enough fluid in your lungs, you can't keep from coughing some.
My weight seems to have leveled off at 181, 6 pounds less than I weighed before the surgery, 4 pounds less than my lowest summer weight. I've been doing short, easy neighborhood rides on the Nimbus, every day since Saturday. Activity is important during recovery, and I like riding better than walking. The riding position on the Nimbus works very well for keeping pain from being a problem.
I have no idea how long it will take me to get my strength back. I'll be going back to work on January 18th, but I'm not supposed to do any lifting until February 1st. I plan on just riding easy for a while, and not pushing it until I'm a lot further along in the healing process.
Thanks, everyone, for the encouragement and well wishes.
