Mounting it low, hanging the clip so the light is below the handlebar attachment gives very nice road coverage -- but I have to figure out a place to hold the battery if I do it that way. If I put it on the helmet (which I'm more used to), it works nicely, too, but it's a tad heavy -- but I can keep the battery in my seatback.
I probably won't join you on the dam ride, assuming you're talking about Joe Pool. But I agree, doing some practice rides at full speed with the headlights on is a GOOD thing... Somehow I'm having a difficult time imagining doing down Goatneck Hill at 35+ at night, HID or not!!!
I purchased a Light & Motion HID light(on ebay) & T-bar light mount(Hostel Shoppe) which mounts in my front derailer tube. Very, very bright light. My battery is 4" long & weighs 25 grams,so I just put it in the bag mounted on my handlebar riser. Mounting the light on my front derailer tube gives me extra light coverage so I'm not lighting up my handlebars or my feet.
It sounds like we might have a conflict of which days works best for eveyone. I'm committed to a party Saturday. If we can't ride together this time,we can always arrange another day/time. I rode my neighborhood at 10:00pm last night with a 17.4 mph avg.(not bad considering all of the stop signs & this was my 2nd time to ride at night).
I was in Cleburne(on business) this morning & drove the course, making mental notes to myself about the route.
