Heel 'cradiling' trike pedals!
Aug 27th, 2007, 6:37pm

I have called two LBS looking for a perhaps 'special' trike pedals, no luck! Maybe they don't exist! Question! "Are there any pedals which 'cradle' the heel for insuring the foot does 'not' slip from the pedal?"
I don't ride my trikes fast, but, on occasion, coast downhill, can gain some speed. Can't help but wonder what would happen "IF" my foot slipped off the pedal and got draged unsder the crossmember! OUCH! Maybe you have heard of 'leg suck'!
I have some experience with 'leathercraft', hope I don't end up making my own. Tnx for any replys.

Nothing I've ever seen, but if you've got a good pair of clipless pedals, you shouldnt be able to accidentally unclip from them anyway!

There are those who would argue that with your legs raised riding any recumbent, your feet are more prone to slip off, and clipless pedals are best. Not all here will agree with that, but I do.

One or two companies made them briefly, but there was never enough market to justify production.  I had a drawing a couple years ago, I'll try to find it...

I remember seeing those advertised somewhere, sometime. It was before I had a bent so it had to be over 12 years ago.

Maybe I am just old fashioned! Can't accept idea of buying special shoes just for riding my trike, i.e., clipless pedels. Tnx anyway.

Since I am still a 24/7 care provider, can't rish chance of injury, just ride on lake/bike paths.

GOOD to hear they were made, yes, please 'do' send any data you have. Sorry to hear they may be out-of-production!  Sad

A catalogue would be great!  Smiley

Tnx again for all four replys.

You're in just as much danger of slippage on a bike path as anywhere else.  Find 'em cheap - even used on ebay if you have to, but I would encourage you to go clipless - especially on a trike.
