Another good one coming up quickly is the Mesquite Rodeo ride, featuring a tough 56 miles...  Current registration is $20, increasing on May 21.  The post-ride food and stuff is EXCELLENT...

This was my very first bike ride. Not knowing anything about bike rides at that time...it was great. Having ridden quite a few now....it really was great! The organization was just superb. I remember even the porta potties looked & smelled like they were brand new. Police stopped traffic at every major itersection. They have a feed at the end which was awesome and to top it all off, free ice cream!

Just a note for those that haven't but are considering this ride, the "ice cream" Richard refers to is BLUE BELL!

I expect I should be well acquainted enough with it by then.  I should be bringing it along.   I'll have it at the picnic Sunday too if you're going to be there.

Rawhide, I remember going past your bikes in the parking lot at last year's ride, when you were elsewhere...  seeing Woody on the handlebars...   Wink

I'm planning to do the 56, myself.  Should we put a couple different speed groups together to ride together, or is it every 'bent for him/her self?

Paul, I'd guess a couple of different speed groups if there are enough of us.  My Bro-in-law says he hasn't ridden much this year so he'll not want to be in a hammer group.  I was going to hang with him and just enjoy the ride.  Who knows, he might be feeling kind of spunky that day and want to crank it out.  I haven't put much thought on where Woody can ride on the Corsa.  Have to work on that.

I'm trying to find an appropriate squeaky toy for the tica as we speak *lol*  And given that I have no lowracer muscles built up, I'll be taking it easy on the Tica, I assume.  I'd love to have a group.

Kewl, sounds like we've got a good bunch forming that could do anywhere from 15-20 mph consistently.  I know that last year I hung with fast DF friends through the first 15 miles, and was averaging 21 at that time -- then I backed off after the 1st rest stop.  I don't have any issues with hanging together as a fairly medium speed group, as long as we're still averaging 15-16...  This is too fast for Richard, I think, but there could well be others for him to ride with!  (no offense, pal, if I'm thinking of the right person!)

Add 2 more Bacchetta's(Stradas) to the party. The Petty's are registered. 17-18 mph works for us. FooRider & the Stradas were cruisin' the last 20 miles(of 65 miles) of the Wild Ride last weekend.

It's an 8AM start, I think...  I'd get there at 7AM, Terry...   I'll probably be there shortly thereafter.

Need some clarification on how we're gonna treat this ride -- I hear from the grapevine that the front "racer" group heads out at ~30mph...  I trust we're not going to attempt to keep up with THIS particular group...  I'll be blown up after 10 miles...

Assuming that we're going to try to keep up an 18+ sort of pace, how do we want to approach this?   I think we should try to congregate at the start around 1/3 of the way back within the 56 mile group from the front...  The first few miles are a bit congested...  Just hang together as a group, then modify the "attack" strategy as it occurs after those first few miles...

Unless Greg and company just want to bust ass for 56 miles....   cry

Well, I personally like to take the first 5 miles or so at an easier pace to get everything warmed up.  It allows the pro pacelines that maintain 25+mph throughout to get going, and lets the crowd thin a bit so that I can weave through.  I'm bringing the tica so I'll want to take it a bit easier anyway, most likely.  18mph is fine uness I get a wild hair Smiley.

My "plan" for Mesquite is to hook up with The Stradas for a repeat of the Wild Ride.  That day, we ended up with a computer average of about 16.5, but flat cruising speeds were usually 17-19 mph with periods of 20+ thrown in to address snarky comments overheard along the way.

I think Paul's suggestion to start about 1/3 back from the front sounds like a good one, but I expect the group will splinter pretty quickly thereafter.

Foo rider...the Stradas are ready/willing. We're registered for Sat. We missed you on Memorial Day(Celina ride). We had another Corsa ride with us(very nice bike,Ken) & a very strong DF rider. Toward the finish of the 50 miles the DF rider & I were cruising along at 25+mph.

I'm going to go ahead post that I am going to this rally....but not the 56 mile route!  This is my first ride and I'm doing the 20 and hoping to do longer rides soon.  I'm not sure which one Richard is doing, since we are not registering until in the morning.  This weather has been insane, even for Texas.
Grin Since you will be ahead of me, I won't have to worry about the "bent crew" traveling together blowing me off the road as you pass by.

Good for you. That's the way to do it: start where you're comfortable, and build from there. I'll look forward to seeing you at the start (if it's raining, I ain't going to be there, either).

You didn't mention what sort of pace you're interested in, but if it's in the 8-9 mph range, you might keep an eye out for my lovely bride, Cheryl.  She'll be doing the 20-mile route on her electric blue handcycle and would enjoy the company.

Congrats in advance on your first rally ride, Linda...  My first one was the 40 miler Wildflower two years ago, and I'd never done more than 20 before.  Just enjoy the ride, and take advantage of the rest stops -- you paid for it, you may as well eat/drink!!!

I think that may be my pace.  I look forward to meeting Cheryl and Alexis.  Oh heck I'm looking forward to seeing faces with names of all of you guys. I've been averaging about 10-12 (I think) with Richard at Campion Trails.  I'm not looking for speed, just finishing my first rally without having the SAG folks have to pick me up!  Shocked
I have a blue Burley.  I will be with Richard.  I'll most likely be the one with the "I signed up for this?" look on my face. Tongue

Sue, my wife Alexis is coming, and she's doing a smaller ride - either the 20 or 40, so you can buddy up for a while if you like!  COme join us at the start and you can hook up.  She's riding a black v-rex with a red bag on the back.
