Houseconcert April 8, 4PM, Wylie

Just received an announcement of a very unusual houseconcert happening this Sunday... You may have heard or heard of the distinct "throat singing" style from the country of Tuva, which features double and triple harmonics and overtones -- well, here's a chance to see/hear it up close and personal, for free (OK, for a donation)!

Email lsilas@wtd.net or call 972-442-5232 for more information or address and directions. The house is in Wylie, four miles NNE on 78 from the intersection of 544 and 78 (about a mile past the Walmart), or 1.5 miles west of the intersection of 205 and 78.

From Tom Noe, out in Wylie, host of Acoustic Concert Tours:

We have suddenly been given an opportunity to host "Alash," a troupe of
Tuvan throat singers. (I couldn't make that up) Alash was featured in an
award winning documentary, "Genghis Blues" and is now touring the USA.
Our friend Allen Morris, a teacher at Wylie High School, is bringing
them to north Texas and they will perform here in our living room this
Sunday, April 8, at 4 PM. Our concert series is devoted to "acoustic
music" and we typically have performers from all around the US. Alash is
literally from the other side of the world and what they do is unique
but I still consider what they do "acoustic music".

Tuva is a small country between Siberia and Mongolia and is famous for
it's throat singing. I first heard it on an NPR program on KERA 90.1 a
few years ago and found it hard to believe the human voice could make
such sounds. A solo performer, trained for many years in a special
configuring of the throat, can create multiple harmonies and sound like
several singers (and more.) It's a completely unique kind of music you
would typically have to travel to Tuva to hear but this Sunday you can
hear it in Wylie.

For still more information, just Google "Tuva."

This concert is free, but we welcome any voluntary contributions to help
them continue their journey through America.

The Tuvan singers were really wild...  They're also performing a free concert at SMU this Thursday at noon, in the atrium of the Bob Hope Theatre building -- kind of a "bring your own lunch" thing.  The harmonics and overtones that they produce are amazing, and even though you don't know the language, you wind up nodding your head and tapping your feet anyway....
