Guess you're referring to that big pile of whatever adjacent to the Ridgecrest Dr. SoPac entrance. I was wearing sunglasses and a tinted helmet shield, so couldn't make out exactly what it was when I was riding on the trail, yesterday. Looked like a pile of loose asphalt paving material to me.

A crew has been excavating nearby for a wall or something.  It's probably sand with black clay from the excavation.

Stopped to check it out while riding the SoPac this morning. It's some kind of finely crushed black aggregate.
