WRL Flooded
May 29th, 2015, 1:16pm

Forget about riding at WRL today. North end of the park, under NW Hwy, is flooded. Looks like part of East Lawther is flooded. The parking lot at the dam is overflowing with gawkers' cars. People everywhere at the dam and on the pedestrian bridge. Never have seen the lake so flooded before.

Drove out to WRL, parked at the dam parking lot to gawk. It is very full of water.

Took the Musashi to WRL at 6:45 PM. Water covering path and north end of lake property had receded. Riding was difficult, because of the number of people and great amount of debris on the path. Got in 7.7 miles.

Typical debris covering path on West side of lake.

Typical debris on East side.

WRL spillway.

No coasting at 26 mph on the pedestrian bridge below the dam, tonight.

Took some photos about 12:45 PM, today.

NW Hwy. bridge on NW corner of WRL park property. There's a bike trail somewhere under that water.

South of bridge. Trail is a foot or so under water.

I made it around, as long as you stay on actual roads you are okay, hit the trails and forget about it.

What is the status of the WRL north trail branch to/from North Dallas?  Is it flooded?   I dream of getting up early tomorrow and riding me bike from Plano to the Clown breakfast at Barbecs.

Yesterday, on the White Rock Creek Trail, there was still wet mud under the US 75 overpass, though most of it had been mechanically removed.  We also saw a crew working on the mud further South on the trail.  We don't know if they worked their way up there.  We didn't check the Cottonwood trail, but experience tells me it can accumulate lots of mud or debris in places.  If you ride down, exercise vigilance.  The trail from there is passable, but not good.  The fence at the U by the golf course is leaning into the trail.

All the wet mud has been removed from the Trail; just some dry mud remains. Bob M and I rode it from one end to the other this afternoon.
