STEAM-N-WHEELS
Feb 6th, 2015, 11:02pm

I just rode the 32 mile route for the Abilene Steam-N-Wheels ride today. It may be the perfect course for a recumbent biker to dominate a group of DF riders. The last 11 or so miles is downhill and most times has a pretty nice tailwind. Today my last 11 miles were 22mph or greater, with one of them averaging 31.5mph. That is grrrreat for me. Some of you guys on high racers would have easily been over 26mph for the last 11 miles. The 48 mile course has some hills that the 32 mile course doesn't, but the 48 mile course is the only one that is chip timed, so I will probably end up doing it.
I'd love to see some of you guys out here. Check out March 21st on your calendars.

Here is a link to my ride today. Check out the downhill slope for the last 11 miles. You can scroll down the miles and see how the speed picks up like a horse headed for the barn.......

Adults should have fun so kids will want to grow up!

For every mile of road there's two miles of ditch.

I'd rather be sorry for something I did than for something I didn't do.

I think I'll do the 48 mile course today so I can show y'all the profile of that course. It shares the last downhill section with the 32 mile course.

To the best of my knowledge ALL rides allow trikes.

Except USCF races of course

Okay, I KILLED myself for this one. Should have done this yesterday, but didn't have time to ride, so.......today the winds were howling out of the NE--probably the worst possible direction for this course. I fought it going east and then also every pedal stroke for the last 22 miles. BUT here is the 48 mile course for the STEAM-N-WHEELS for your information and entertainment.

I did it for the first time last year. I have already signed up to do the 48'r again this year.
I rode my newly acquired Barron I had just picked up at the HOT in Austin.

Great, Billy! I signed up too. Got to get that long sleeved shirt! It would be so great to have a big recumbent turnout. Let's just pray for a south wind to push us back to the finish!
