well ain't that about a.....

pregnant dog!

So I take my old seat off my m5 to install the railgun seat.  To do so, I would have to unbolt the existing seat bracket from the frame and bolt a shorter one on.  No biggie.  m5 made them to be changeable.

Except apparently the previous owner of mine decided to bond this one permanently to the frame.  So the rail seat is worthless to me.

Excuse to buy a new bike?

It may be possible for Kent to unbond the part.  Thankfully there's a possibility we might vacation in Florida for a couple weeks.  We'll have to see.

Since it was an original bolted install... Couldn't the bonded mnt be grinded down or cut to the mate line and then the remant layer of carbon drilled through to restore the original bolt through hole? Hypothetical since I have no idea what the interface is like.

Probably could, but I'm not touching it.  I'm a big chicken like that.

I'd have to see what it looks like. Hoping Greg can determine why it was bonded to the frame and how. I can likely cut the seat support off and if the threaded insert in the frame is stripped, I should be able to thread it for a larger bolt or install helicoil. If stripped, I likely need to ask Bram what the wall thickness of the insert is before proceeding.

Still can't imagine why in the world someone would bond the thing to the frame though.

More obligatory yet appropriate fortune cookies for Greg:

 - Some people live life in the fast lane.  You're in oncoming traffic.
 - It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
 - Living your life is a task so difficult, it has never been attempted before.

Greg's response:
If life is a stage, I want some better lighting.

Now let's get back to playing out in the road...

 - There's nothing in the middle of the road but a yellow stripe and dead armadillos.
-- Jim Hightower, Texas Agricultural Commissioner
 - You're at the end of the road again.

Hey! Who's still playing with fortune(6)?
