I'll be wandering around the registration/start area, doing my regular "candid camera" thing wearing a red "STAFF" tshirt...  then riding with a 9:30 sweep group on the 62 mile route...

I hope you don't catch me with the sweep group!

Hope you don't complete the 62-mile route, before I complete the 42-mile route.  Cheesy

Well kids The GDB's have finished marking the routes for tomorrow's ride.  The roads are in the best shape I have seen them in. If you do the 40 route you will see the exotic animals and blue bonnets. Be aware that on sugar hill where most of the flowers are you will encounter the "tourists"  in their cages with their young'uns and creatures. I'll be out there supplying the food and drink.

Well...It turned out to be a good rally. I got to see most of you at the first RS stopping traffic protecting you from the cages.  Looks like we coulda used a couple more potties there since short crank was holdin' the line up. The wind made the ride changeling as I saged a few back to the finish.  I got my fill of pine apple for the year.

Short Crank didn't hold any line up, because he skipped the Port-O-Potties. Otherwise, would have been been waiting in line for 30 minutes. Yes, more Potties were needed at the first rest stop.

That pineapple was really good.

Do you know what the total rider count was?

I haven't heard any number yet. All the RS were very busy but we were lucky no supplies ran out.  I only saw a couple of injuries from minor falls.  You really appreciate a good rally when you see the work that goes into one.  Things can hit the fan in a heartbeat.

Check out the first rest stop Port-O-Potty line at: http://www.bicycle-stuff.com/photo2014/04-GDB/imagepages/image335.html.

I almost lost it on Dead Man's curve, just before the exotic animal farm. There's a steep downhill with a 90 degree curve at the bottom. Looked to me like the roadies were taking it at full speed, so that's what I was going to attempt. As I approached the curve, decided it wasn't a good idea and braked. Lost some steering input, due to rough pavement. Thought I was going off the curve, but made it. John S. said he thought a rider was killed at that location on a prior ride. A ride official asked us for ride marking suggestions at the restaurant where we were eating lunch. Told him a warning sign needs to be posted at the approach to the curve to protect thrill seekers from themselves.

Count was just under 1200 -- the wind kept some folks away......
