Peach Pedal July 13
Jul 6th, 2013, 8:00pm

I'm thinking about doing the 47 mile ride at the Peach Pedal this year. Anybody else planning on riding? I've never done this ride. Looks like it might be fun...although I've heard bad things about:

1. Traffic getting in and out.
2. Lots of wind and hills.
3. Too many people, too crowded.
4. Lots of stupid people and the wrecks they cause.

Other than that, it sounds like it could be a good time!  Cheesy

I haven't done this ride in years, but the scenery used to be nice, in an arid sort of way.  There was only one hill I used to have trouble with,  but there are some annoying rollers near the end, when you're already shot.  The other stuff is not much different from any popular ride.  Some of the crowd is because of the peach festival, which you may find diverting to attend after the ride.

The big question is: Will there be any homemade peach ice cream for finishing riders? Would be a huge disappointment if there was none left by the time the average rider completed the ride.   Sad

If not, then we just need to organize a Sunday ride out to Ham's in Terrell for burgers AND peach ice cream.

Urbinrider, a couple on an EZ tandem and I will be at the Peach Pedal.  All I can say is get there early in the morning and the traffic isn't bad.  The peach ice cream is another story.  I"ve had some every year except for last year.  There were shuttles going from thei high school to the festival downtown and when we got there, all of the ice cream was gone.  Peaches are at the rest stops on the ride through.  It is hilly---that's one of the "draws" for the ride.

Hills and no ice cream - hard work and no reward. As George H W used to say: "Not gotta do it".
