Mesquite BBQ ride Sat. 5/25, 9AM rollout
May 18th, 2013, 3:48pm

There is a BBQ place that I ride by everytime I ride Mesquite at the corner of Hwy 80 and Lawson Rd.  Everytime I ride by it I think to myself I need to stop and try it out some time.  Well it is time to quit talking and start eating!!  So here is the idea.

Do a no drop ride of approx 40ish miles at a clown's pace.  Last time we rode out there that was 12-13 mph avg (warning - there are a few hills but we will regroup and wait as necessary  Sorry about last time Sweeper  embarrassed  ).  Roll out from the Poteet HS parking lot at 9am and aim for 35 miles then loop back to the BBQ place.  Eat as much BBQ as you can.  They have a large outdoor patio so bike security shouldn't be an issue.  Then ride the few miles back to the cars trying not to loose your lunch.  Is there any interest in this?  Let me know as I might make alternate plans if I'll be the only person doing it.

Also, if anyone knows more about the BBQ place I am talking about, please fill me in.  If for some reason they aren't open, I'll try to find another BBQ place ahead of time we could drive to so have no fear of missing out on lunch.  I'm open to suggestions for a back-up place.

Route would probably be something like this:

http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2531981

There is a detour around most of East Fork Rd since there is construction but I'm not exactly sure where the construction is.  Anyone have any more details on this and the status?

Also, I thought we could stop at the Airport for a rest stop.  Can someone confirm that they have bathroom facilities and drinking water available?

Mesquite air port has everything you need + ICE. Sounds like a ride I can do, and since I can't get lost I can wait at the BBQ place.  Smiley

East Fork Road is definitely torn up for 3/4 mile or so, for resurfacing -- we avoided it last week by riding out Tripp Rd. instead.  It should be redone soon, but if anyone rides out there on East Fork, be careful riding in those scraped ruts!!!

East Fork road last night is now bare dirt for that 3/4 mile, and the last 1/4 mile where it meets Tripp is torn up as well.  It's rideable, but they were continuing to work on it last night, so I don't know what kind of shape it'll be in on Saturday morning.  I would suggest avoiding it, somehow.

Well nuts. I guess that's what I get for not keeping up with the forum.  I already committed to the Burleson ride where I'll be riding my freshly faired Rotator Pursuit (yessss!). So I guess I won't be seeing any of you guys there. That means I also need to update my avatar.
Cheers, - Bob.
