The Greater Dallas 100

Got an email about this today. Sounds like an interesting idea for an adventurous group on a Sunday morning in May.

I wonder how early one can start the ride.  I'm thinking about starting Northeast Garland area if I do it.

You can start any time you like -- it's an individual/group thing, non-sanctioned and non - SAG supported.  Start where and when you want to, and go either direction.  Start with lights at 4AM, and be home in time for lunch!!!!   Just be sure to be through Richardson/NDallas/Addison early in the morning!!!    And I daresay, stop at all stop signs -- methinks the local gendarmes will be out in force, writing tickets.........    Smiley

I'm probably doing the Tour de Norway 80-miler the day before, so probably won't be doing this....

If you look at the route, through Grand Prairie and Irving, it goes up Belt Line which is an extremely busy 6 lane road going by the Irving Mall at Hwy 183.  I won't be doing this ride because of the traffic issues.  I live in Irving as well, but this part from Grand Prairie up to Valley View is just way too busy.

The map format is Microsoft Streets & Trips...  Who the heck even uses that?!?!
I agree on the traffic concerns though, the whole route is Belt Line Rd which is not a lightly traveled thoroughfare.  I won't be doing it alone, that's for sure.  If there's interest I'll join in though....

The advantage of Belt Line is the continuous loop, making it easier to stay on course. Traffic issues won't be nearly as bad on a Sunday morning as they are during the week, especially with an early start. I don't know if I will be able to do this one or not. Depends upon how late we get back from Kansas City on Saturday. Since none of Belt Line is all that close to me, if I get to do this I'm going to scope out what I think is the most difficult or hazardous (traffic wise) part of the ride and do that section first. I don't remember how hilly the road is through Cedar Hill to Grand Prairie but that might be worse than traffic in Irving. Smiley

Keep in mind that Belt Line is two lanes down in the Lancaster/Wilmer area...
