Mebbe!  I've done the ride before - it's a hell of a lot of fun!  They have cold showers at the end at well as beer and brats.

Welcome aboard, Dan!!!  We're not planning to "hammer" the ride, since neither Dave nor I have been doing a lot of long distance riding -- so whatever your planned pace, we'll look to hook up at the start!  I'll be wearing my VITE jersey...

I'll look for you guys up front too.  This is also my third year for the Shiner GASP.  The first two years were on a wedgie.  Never again!  I haven't had as much training this spring as I would have liked so I am not sure what my average speed will be.  I am guessing it will be around 18-20 for the first 60 miles and slower after that!

Still giving it some thought and trying to work it out.  You guys are sure they don't have any issues with hauling bents?

I don't know, but I would guess not.  That's why they let us start up front, right?

I wasn't aware of any "recumbents in the front" situation with this ride -- I assume they've done this in the past?

Dave and I aren't going to be haulin' a**, but an 18-20 rolling pace for the first half sounds doable...

Honestly I don't remember for sure.  I know HHH had recumbents up front last year, and I think Tour de Paris did too.  I guess I just assumed Shiner did too when you said "hook up at the start".   Somehow I got "front" out of "start".  But now that I think about it....I think Shiner was just a 'mass start' from a parking lot last year.  No 'recumbents in front' rule.   In any case, I am sure we won't be (at least I won't be) the fastest ones there so I'm not worried about it.

I actually prefer to not start at the very front.  I have noticed in these rides that if I start at the front, people pass me and that makes me feel like a slowpoke.  If I start further back, even halfway back, I pass a lot of people, and that makes me feel fast.

They didn't do it two years ago when I rode.

I've had to cancel my Shiner ride trip at the last minute.  Anyone want to ride/stay with dave rothgeb, do the 100-miler, ride the 5:30 bus backto Austin, and come back up Sunday?  You can use my registration...
