Knee replacement (Read 929 times)

richardr rbent member Posts: 242	Knee replacement Mar 20^th, 2013, 8:30pm It looks like Vicky, my wife, will have to have knee replacement surgery the next couple of months. We are looking into how this will affect our cycling. I would be very interested in hearing about the impact on cycling of any one who has had a knee replaced. Richard

I have just had my right Knee replaced as of Dec.10, 2012. I have no problems with peddling a stationary bike with that knee in the rehab. I have continued to work out at the local Wellness Center. I am having problems with sciatic nerve problems in my Left hip which is causing me balance problems. The first 15 days of rehab make all the difference in the world with rehabing the knee.
I was placed on a continuous motion the next day and the staff also had me up walking that same day using a walker. When I got home iwas given a continuous motion machine for 21 days which I was told to use for 3 two hour sessions a day. I followed the instructions except for the 30 hour power outage over Christmas.
I understand that there is an outstanding orthopedic hospital in Plano. GOOD LUCK!
I am happy that I had it done.

The other 4 folks in my rehab class all had knee replacement surgery. Everyone said if they had to do it again, they would, by all means. My Ortho doctor, is booked solid, (hips and knees), and has been doing it for over 30 yrs. Best to your wife.

Had one friend with knee and ankle problems. Her surgeon decided to correct the knee first, and that turned out to be a mistake. She wasn't 100% for two years.
