Wooden bikes
Oct 4th, 2012, 12:28pm

Found some fun pics of bikes made of wood in the Phillipines, Africa, and other locales....  A couple samples:

Notice the foot-activated brake for the rear wheel...

And here is the Recumbent Bicycle Enthusiasts club of North Phillipines (RBENP)

Of course, it raises the whole "steel is real" issue -- what tree is the best for bicycle building, Coconut Tree, Mango Tree, Kawayan or Bamboo, Narra, Mahogany, Ipil-Ipil, or Molave???   Mahogany is Marvelous, Bamboo is Boss...    Cheesy

I dunno what wood is best, but I do know that Charlie & Pat Jenkins of Nautilus Bike Shop in Sherman, recently got a bamboo tandem...to go along with their carbon Calfee!

have you head they are making bikes out of cardboard and you can get one for $20!
I bet it will never rust, but you sure do not want to get caught out in the rain with it!
