GDB Tuesday and Thursday night rides
Oct 4th, 2012, 11:22am

Now that summer daylight hours have departed, the GDB switches their Tues/Thurs rides to night riding, with lights...  not just blinkies to be seen by, but lights to SEE WITH...  If you have a decent light set, please consider joining in on either of these rides - you don't have to be a member.  It would be nice to have some other 'bents participating!!!

Tuesday WRTrail/LakeThis ride actually starts up on October 16th.  Meet at Schlotzkys on Forest Lane across from Medical City, 7:00PM sharp rollout.  Ride down the WRTrail at 15-16mph, brief regroup, climb Flagpole Hill (optional) and regroup, then haul tail (sprint) down to the 7-11 for a short break.  Return trip groups get split up - starts with climbing the Loving Hills as an option, or you can just ride back up the lake and trail to the start.  ~21 miles total.  Optional fine dining at Tacos Y Mas, featuring a 10% ‘bike club’ discount.

Thursday Downtown Dallas rideHappening now.  Same start location, but 6:30PM sharp rollout.  Wide tires recommended, due to rough streets in some locations. Ride through North and East Dallas to Downtown, cruising Elm Street and Commerce, then through the West End and AA Center, return up the Katy Trail, through the SMU campus, and up Thackery back to the start.  Typical rolling speed 16-17mph except for faster through downtown (Elm Street is a downhill!).  ~31 miles total, typical finish 9PM, with optional dining at TYM.

I'm going to have to try one of these if I can ever get out of these business trips I've been going on.  LOL  Sounds like fun!

At the moment there is no bicycle trail behind Schlotzkys.
Well there might be a temporary trail but it only goes north.

Ah, good point, I had forgotten about the construction...  The Tuesday night ride starts up in two more weeks, so maybe it'll be open by then???  There is an alternative of riding down the 75 service road to the pedestrian underpass, then back north 100 yards to the trail entrance...

The section of trail from the Cottonwood Trail to US75 will need to be closed soon. Here’s the information from Richard Stauffer of the Park and Recreation Department.

Re: Additional Closure of White Rock Creek Trail from Cottonwood Creek Trail connection & US-75

Trail reconstruction note, from their website:

We completed 1000 feet of trail from Forest Lane south behind the restaurants within 1 week. The Contractor has requested to close off another section of trail between the Cottonwood Creek Trail connection & US-75. The working space is very limited in this section & he can have the work done within 10 to 14 days weather permitting. This will allow us to complete an additional 1400 feet of trail. With the addition of this work, we will have removed & replaced 2400 feet of trail within 3 weeks. This amounts to almost two thirds of the trail and construction within the most challenging areas.

I have agreed & he will be putting together signage to identify the sections to be barricaded.

The trail from Anderson Bonner Park crossing under Forest Lane to the west side of US-75 will be open. Trail users will have to turn around at US-75. This is an inconvenience, but after this almost two thirds of the trail and construction within the most challenging areas will be complete. We will then proceed with installation of the temporary trail as needed & completion of the remainder of the project.

It is closed at 75, and heavy equipment is there.  The Clowns are going up Cottonwood to the Methodist church parking lot.
