Got My Lightning Back
Sep 5th, 2012, 9:32pm

The P-38 arrived by UPS last night and I got a chance to take a couple of pics this morning. At lunch I took it in to Fort Worth Cycling and Fitness and had the headset/fork races and cups pressed in. (That's about the only part of the build I do not have tools for.)

All in all it looks good. The repair included a new head tube and they brazed in one of the top tube cross braces that the newer frames have. I also had them put on an extra eyelet so that now I can mount a rack and fenders. There are some problems with the finish but nothing that I want to spare the time to send it back for. After all this is a working machine and not a piece of art, although, it is getting close.

By the way, I have a box all modified for a p-38 sized recumbent frame if anyone needs to pick one up.

Some day I'd love to test ride a P38, just to see what they're all about...

The odds of running into me at an event with one of my large P38s are pretty good. My spouse, Warren, only joins us on his medium when the racer boys he trains with are out of town. You are welcome to ride either Smiley

Carl, we have a silver,  red metallic and your blue. I think the blue is by far the prettiest Smiley

Wow, thanks for the offer!  I do plan on riding the Denton Turkey Roll in November, but don't have any planned rides on the books before then.  Any chance you will be at the Turkey Roll?

Wow!!!!  Love the blue.  Did Lightning do the work?  I have a red metallic P-38 in the Ultegra model but if I come across a fork that I could use a fatter tire or racks I might do that.

If you are ever in Glen Rose let's get together and ride some.

Thanks for the kind words about the bike. After the heart walk yesterday I started reassembling it and it is slow going. I am off to Bucycles Inc in a bit to get new shifter cable and housings, it turns out these are shot. Another big stopping point is that the seat does not fit now. That is to say that the bolt holes on the frame are about an eight inch wider than the ones in the seat.  Grrrr.

Will have to call LCD tomorrow for suggestions but am afraid it'll mean slotting at least one side of the seat. No riding this week.  Sad

Still working on it but it is almost ready to ride.

I took a dremel to the seat mounting holes and it is pretty ugly. I hope the clamping pressure is enough to keep it from moving around. The rest of it looks pretty good though.

FrankB, as luck (or maybe fate) would have it I will be in the Glen Rose Area toward the end of September for The Texas Time Trials. If you are interested you can gheck out www.tt24tt.com for more information.
