Hydration system
Jun 29th, 2012, 5:45pm

New to the Bent world so I'm looking for some ideas.  I'm currently shoving a camelback 2 litre into the bag hanging on the back of my phantom mesh seat.  Today I emptied the bag in less than 2 hours so I'm looking for a system of some sort that will expand the amount of water i can carry.  I've never been a fan of carrying water bottles and hunting a place to fill them.  I'm curious if there is some type of system that I  could buy that would provide me 3+ liters of water without a huge hassle to use.

Appreciate your thoughts and experience.

I carry a 3-liter Camelback in my Aerotrunk.  I have used both the insulated one and just the bladder alone.  I also have a bottle for Gatorade on the back of my seat (RANS Stratus XP).

I'm using an Arkel bag that slips over the seat back and I'm not sure the full 3liter pack would fit but the bladder certainly would. How do you keep that bladder cold without any insulation?

I know that taerracycle makes a fastback that will fit lightning bikes,  As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing else that gets the job done as well.

I  don't keep it cold without the bag...but I can handle warm water when riding.  Having the room for the one with the insulation is nicer though! Smiley

Interesting design, I see three options, the m70 which is a 2 liter pack, the double century which is two,2 liter packs or the 4.0 if it would fit on the lightning seat.  Perhaps I will call them tomorrow and see what they can tell me, thanks for the tip.  I'm assuming they would not work with the camelback bladders, do you know?

They work just fine with camelbaks.

You will have a little trouble stuffing a 3L new style Antidote bladder by camelbak in a fast  back bag. They are shorter but much wider than the older 3L Bladder.

The 70 oz (2L) Camelbak Unbottle works very well in a Fastback bag. I've been using that setup for over six years now.

I use the Fastback double century pouch setup.  I really like it, I use the left pouch for a camebak bladder, (I can fit a 100 oz old style bladder if I stuff it in there).  The right pouch gets used to carry food.  I can reach down and unzip the pouch, fish around and pull out whatever I need while riding.

Is there room in that thing for tubes and a few tools also.  I like the looks of it but wanted a 3 liter pack, do you know the size difference between the new bladder and the old as you refer to it.

I've ran with some tools and a spare tube in my right side pouch before, things get pretty crowded however.  If I've got a bladder in my left side pouch there is no room for anything else.

The new Camelbak Antidote bladders are wider and shorter than previous models, it makes getting a 100 oz bladder stuffed in there a bit of a challenge.

Finally decided to order the fastback 4.0 with the 3 liter bladder today.  Did a 50 miler today and ran out of water so it was time.  Thanks for all the information and responses.
