Steering Conversion
Sep 27th, 2011, 8:08pm

Converted my new Performer High Racer 26's steering from praying mantis to superman. There were some safety issues with the original steering. The conversion has greatly improved the safety and rideability of the bike. Now, I'm going to have to try to figure out what I can do to make it faster. It's aero, but somewhat slower than my other bikes. Seems to have more rolling resistance.

Try adding that trailer with the electric assist.

In my quest to get more speed from my high racer, I'm going to replace the 26-inch, disc brake, MTB wheels and 1-3/8" tires with 650c wheels and 23c tires borrowed from my X-Stream. Also, I'm going to replace the disc brakes with long-reach calliper brakes. The Tektro R365 front brake I received today interferes with the chain when it's mounted on the front of the fork. It will fit and function, if mounted on the back of the fork. Does anyone know of any reason, relating to safety, why I shouldn't mount it on the back of the fork?

If it doesn't create any pedal interference, I don't know why it wouldn't be fine there...
