PHILADELPHIA — If you’re willing to strip off your inhibitions to strike a blow for bicycle rights and cycling advocacy, then the third annual Philly Naked Bike Ride Sunday evening might be for you.
 
At dusk Sunday, bike ride organizers estimate 2,000 people will pedal in all forms of dress and undress along a route to be determined through social media at www.phillynakedbikeride.org, and through Facebook and Twitter feeds.
 
The inaugural ride in 2009 brought out 1,000 riders, and that doubled to 2,000 last year.
 
The ride is designed to promote cycling, awareness about fuel consumption and the environmental impact of gas-powered cars, trucks and SUVs as well as positive body image. Riders do not have to be naked, as the event is called a “bare as you dare” event.
 
The group said there were no legal incidents the past two years with authorities.
 
Similar events are held throughout the United States and Canada, and there is a World Naked Bicycle Ride organization.
 
The event also brings all levels of bicycle enthusiasts out as well as other methods of people-powered transportation.
