Texas Rando Stampede 1200k (769.3 miles)
May 18th, 2011, 9:05pm

Texas Rando Stampede 1200k (769.3 miles) in under 90 hours.
Just a few thoughts about the Texas Stampede1200k. This was a great event, well run, well supported,  loved having hotels for each of the overnights. I loved the route.
It show cased the best of Texas. Wind , Rain , chipseal roads, hills lots of hills.More rain more wind( headwind both ways). I still loved the route, even though I have ridden some of the roads before.
It was easier then I thought, and at the same time harder than I expected.
For me the hardest part was not having Steve ridding with me.The easy part was riding. We rode a comfortable pace so I never taxed myself.
The best part was riding with Daniel and SK. We rode almost ever mile toghther.
Then all the nice people we met along the way.
I only chicked one person. I was on my best behavior.
I had another finisher tell me, she had never seen women recumbent riders before. That she was glad to see us out there with smiles on our faces . Riding strong finishing well.
I'm sure SK will write a detailed report, but its all a blur for me of smiles and tears.

Steve and I will be riding the High Country 1200k in July. Until thten more training miles.

VERY cool, Peggy...  I'm sure it would have been more enjoyable in the long run to have been able to share the experience with Steve, but when your handlebars break during the ride, it's hard to carry on, eh?  I'm glad you made it through safely, given the conditions, and glad you could make the time limit even at a "relaxed" (for you) pace.

Given how most of us here wouldn't consider doing more than about 20-50 miles on a "DF" bike, what would you say your main physical discomfort issues were, riding recumbent instead?

Steve, how did your bars break?

Great Job, Peggy, Steve, Bryan, and Daniel.  Regardless of what happened, you were winners just for showing up to the starting line.

Are you guys going up early to get adjusted to the altitude for the Colorado ride?  I gotta tell ya, after my 300k last week I had serious respect for what living at that altitude can do for your lungs, and how much harder it is for us lowlanders to breathe up there!

Paul on day 2 I had some hot foot. But I find if I'm having hot foot Im behind on calories. After I got a hamburger I felt better. I felt good most of the time. I'm heart went out to the DF into the head winds.

I'm sure that's plenty.  I'm overly altitude sensitive anyhow.  You guys will be just fine.  You may not want to come back though.  Dropping down mountain passes at 6:30 am on smooth asphalt is breathtaking.
