RBENT Mess in the West - May 15
Mar 28th, 2011, 9:39am

This week's trail ride thread made me think about how long it's been since we had a get together over here.  So here goes:

When:  Sunday, May 15.  10 am start.
Start location:  Benbrook YMCA parking lot by the baseball fields, corner of 377 and Winscott Road.
Options for extra distance before and after.

10am start  will give time for the faraway riders to make it over.  We'll take a nice easy pace down the trinity trail with no drops down to the stockyards and back.  I figure Riscky's BBQ will make a nice lunch with plenty of room for a big group.  I don't know the exact mileage.  Ken and Jerry, can you map out the route for me?  I expect it's around 25 miles there and back.

Add-on options:
Before Lunch:  8am rollout from the ballfields through benbrook lake park - 1 dollar day use entrance fee.  27 mile Kelly Road Loop.  Real popular with cyclists, good pavement, with only a couple miles where you have to worry about cars at all.  A couple good climbs, but the rollers where you can carry over 30mph, and the long speedy downhills are worth it!  If you can do 27 miles in two hours you're welcome to join us.

After lunch:  A shorter version of the same loop that takes us past the Big Cow.  Maybe 20 miles.  I'll provide maps and sweep so anyone who wants the bonus can ride and not get lost - but there's only a few turns on the whole route.

How's that sound?

Steve, Peggy, Daniel and I are all signed up for the Texas Stampede which ends on the 14th, so it's doubtful that any of us will make it.

I'm flying back from a tradeshow in SLC that morning, so can't make it, either - and I'm booked on the 21st and 28th as well.  What's the 7th look like, or possibly Sunday the 8th or 15th?

sounds good to me - I'll plan to be there.  I'm leaning towards the before lunch option - sounds like fun!

Sundays don't bother me.  We could make it Sunday the 15th if that works for everyone.

Bryan, I know it conflicts with the Stampede, but it conflicts with popular pay rides every other weekend.  So I just had to pick a day and run with it.  I'll be helping out with the ride though, so I'll be somewhere to cheer you all on!

Ok, I added a poll.  Choose the day you'd prefer to have the ride and we'll possibly change.  If you can make either day, please choose that option.

Ok - with the overwhelming majority being ok with either day, I picked Sunday.  So Sunday the 15th it is.  Should be a lot of fun!

I'll get GPS maps soon as I can ride the routes.

Looks like I have to cancel myself, but feel free to have the get-together anyway.  If not, I'll be rescheduling for a Sunday in June.
