Whips and chains

The expense is a whipping!

My thoughts are from those I read, that lowering the weight of the chain is a variable that actually makes a real difference. Starting with this assumption as gospel, please weigh-in (punny eh) on the merits of the super-light KMC vs Sram offerings.  I have used entry level SRAM for years and am looking to upgrade to a 10sp which includes a new three-chain.

I've never considered the added expense worth it, myself, since we're dealing with 2-1/2 "normal" chains, but that all depends upon one's wallet, and if you're doing riding activities that demand the fastest and lightest (which typically translates to somewhat less durable).  Hey, if you want it, whether or not a placebo effect is in effect, go for it!  The rate of chain wear is about 2-1/2 times less, no?

As long as you're going to get whipped why not get a Wipperman chain. I've never seen a negative review for them as opposed to the Sram's and KMC's.

I wear the HELL of of the 10speed sram chains I've had.  Switching to the KMC now and we'll see what happens.

I concur. However, there is no weight advantage to the stainless chains- except wallet weight. I have not been unhappy with the SRAM 951 or 971 chains. The issue (for me) is whether the approx. 1/2 lb rotational weight savings is enough incentive to toss the extra $$?
