A gathering of Catrikes and their owners for a weekend of riding, learning, and shooting the breeze with fellow Cats
 
 
 
Come join us for the second annual Heart of Texas Catrike Rally (HOT). This is a must-do event for those who love recumbent triking and biking as well as socializing with those that share their addiction.
 
This year's event is shaping up to be the best EVER (okay there has only been one before this). Here's a brief rundown of the fun coming:
 
FRIDAY. APRIL 8
 
 Start checking in to Easy Street Recumbents at 11:00 a.m. Don't try and set any land speed records getting there at 11:30,  because the afternoon is just for checking in, having your Catrike/Catbike inspected, and visiting with others. Pick up your goody bag -- and it IS a goody bag this year!  A Saturn Sling Bag filled with things your Mom always said you should have with you "just in case."
 
Also on Friday afternoon, have your portrait taken with your Cat -- compliments of the HOT.  
 
Mike and his pit crew ore offering free trike/bike check ups to make sure your Cat is purring right.  
 
While fooling around Friday afternoon, now is a great time to use the 10% discount Mike is offering to those attending the HOT. Make your lists. Now is the time to get that thing you REALLY want for your Cat. And if you have been fighting the urge for a new Catrike -- here is a good reason to give in: buy a Catrike or Catbike at regular price, and Easy Street will give you a shop credit of 10% of the purchase price to use on parts and accessories!!!! Do the math. MAJOR incentive to buy that new Cat!!!! Multiply the cost of that new trike/bike by .9 and watch that sweet number come up that you can use to trick that trike.  
 
At 6:30, we climb on the Cats and pedal off to Phara's for a fun filled buffet, compliments of the HOT. Make sure you heave your lights on your trike/bike for this fun ride over to the feast. When we get back to the shop. the Cats will be kept in Easy Street for the night (Friday and Saturday nights). You, however, are on your own. SATURDAY, APRIL 9
 
Trike pick up starts at 9:00 a.m. We'll round up the wagons and all head over to the Veloway (www.veloway.com) officially opens at 10:00, so we can load up and head over there before then. Thad is going to be the Boss for the Veloway. The Vekloway is a super neat three plus mile closed course. Oh wow it is a lot of fun. We got rained out last year (after we were HALFWAY ON THE COURSE), so I did not even begin to get a true ride in on it. Pretty flat except for one KILLER short climb. It is a blast. I want to have a stop watch and see how fast some of you speed demons can clock it. That will tell us what to do.  
 
Lunch is on your own - LOTS of places near by to eat. After lunch, we can take a ride around the Circle C area, led by Carl. Carl lives there so he can tell us what to look for, avoid,  how to act.  
 
Back to Easy Street from there. Hopefully, Mike will give us a good talking to. Last year his info session on Trikes 101 was REALLY helpful. If you have any topics you would like for Mike to lecture us on, email me. We have a real treat lined up too!  
David M. Eggleston, PhD PE, owner of Velomobile USA will give a one hour presentation on velomobiles and trike technology. We are definitely going to learn some things from him.
 
And Saturday afternoon -- DRUM ROLL -- drawing for the much anticipated door prizes. We are not talking small stuff here people.  This year, Reverse gear has donated a FABULOUS jersey for one of the prizes. A complete set of YOUR CHOICE Scwalbe tires --- you get the picture. Each person registered for the HOT receives 2 tickets for the drawing.  
 
We can put the Cats to bed, then go out looking for something to get into. Threadgill's is calling my name pretty loud. Yum. Dinner is on your own Saturday night, so do what you want. I am sure we can all think of something to get into, right?
 
SUNDAY, APRIL 10
 
Ride and shine! Okay, you don't have to shine, but get up and get to Easy Street to get the Cats out for a morning ride. Being proud Texans, we plan to ride to the Capitol and back. Bring your cameras.  
 
Back to Easy Street for the start of the annual Bent Event. Easy Street will have a light lunch for us. The bent Event is all things recumbent. There will even be a ride leaving during the Event for those who want to get a few more miles in on Sunday.  
 
As you can read, this is going to be a weekend immersed in Catrike/Catbike culture! Please plan on joining in and running with the Cats!

We went last year and will be going again this year. It was a blast, even with the Veloway washout. The night ride to Phara's for dinner was great fun, the food excellent, and the belly dancer was highly entertaining (especially when she recruited volunteers). Raffle prizes were awesome: tire sets, wheel sets, chain sets, jerseys, lights, etc. New this year is the photo portrait of you and your ride (C'mon, you know you've always wanted one) If you can't make it for the whole weekend, at least join us for the Bent Event on Sunday. I'm sure Mike will, once again, have lots of fun toys to try out.
