Plano Cycling Club Ride 2/26
Feb 25th, 2011, 7:34pm

The new route I found on Bikely is a bust: there's a road closed 3 turns in.  Sad  Glad I did a pre-ride drive or I'd be very upset tomorrow morning!  Looking for other options Saturday and/or Sunday!
Anyone want to join me on the Plano Cycling Club Saturday Eastside Ride tomorrow morning at 9:30am?  I may go on my own and see if I can find a riding buddy who will go my pace.  I've been averaging 15-16mph on 30+ mile rides but I'm just worried the uprights will leave me on the hills.  I'll be looking to go around 35 miles if that's an option on this route (it says it's 28-45 miles).  Any takers?

I'm going tomorrow. The average is generally a little slower than that, but depending on who's there, someone may go off the front.

I'm confused about what time the ride starts...the listing says 9:30am but I just noticed the announcement section of the page says Feb rides start at 8am.  I hadn't planned on getting up early enough for an 8am ride...hope I don't miss it but if I do I'll try next weekend!

I'm not doing any pay rides next Saturday (4/16).  Also, March of Dimes is happening Saturday morning at WRL.  I'm thinking about bringing the low racer out to this ride - any other RBenters going to do it?  I'm up for other suggestions too!

I'm going to skip next week's pay rides, too, so I'll join you on the PBA ride.

I'm totally in, guys.  Need to get back into bigger mileages!  I had a blast at the HOT Catrike Rally this weekend in Austin, but it wasn't much for MS150 training.  Wink

Alternatively, there's this pay ride: the Ride for Heroes. http://rideforheroes.org/ .  I need some hill training, but  I know it's a hike out to Aledo.  Just a thought.

Got my fill of hill training at Lancaster on Saturday. That's why I'm skipping Aledo.

I'm planning to do this ride at the end of the month  http://www.nortexinfo.net/gfest/bike.htm .  Never done it before but supposedly good hill training.  And since it doesn't start until 11 - should be nice and warm too.

I'm not sure why John and Heidi keep the start for the Eastside Ride at 9:30 for so long into the year, but they do...  They also tend to take long breaks at the rest stops, so plan on being out there for a while!  It's definitely a good ride route, though...  Enjoy!

The site says the ride is on Saturday, April 24, but April 24 is a Sunday.  So what day is it really?  Wink
Man, 11am...that is a really late start!  I prefer early morning once the highs get into the 90s but I will keep it in mind.

I did that route with them a few weeks ago and had a lovely time.  I'm just thinking I should probably get more open road experience before the Fort Worth MS 150 in 3 weeks and the Eastside route (and the GDB route I did with you all, Paul!) are more stop-and-go city riding.  I do prefer earlier start times in the spring/summer months though, especially for any rides upwards of 40 miles...  I'd start at 7am if it meant I could get a few cooler hours.  Wink

Never noticed that - apparently attention to detail isn't part of the deal.  According to the great Bicycle-stuff.com http://www.bicycle-stuff.com/main/01/11_rides/03_apr_10.htm#muenster it is on 4/30.  I tend to believe that - mainly cause the webmaster is a fellow RBenter & Clown and I can berate him if I show up and the date is wrong.  Their site is showing the 2010 date - and if you look at the active.com site for online registration it shows the date for 2009!

In my defense, I did get this link through your site.  You would have thought there would be better quality control from such a great site.    Smiley  Jay says a smiley makes it all better  Grin

I ride in Aledo just about 2x per week.  The ride for heroes is a nice ride.  I'll miss it this year since I'm doing a 600k.

The Muenster rally is a MUST DO more or less.  Lots of hills, but fantastic scenery and gigantic sculpture.  Not to mention the free beer at the germanfest.

Ha ha, what a mess!  I'm one of those nit-picky people who will probably end up in quality when she grows up.  Wink  If it's on the 30th I definitely couldn't do it: that's the same day as the Fort Worth MS 150.

That is my understanding.  When I last rode with them a few weeks ago, May rides start 8am.  I may be doing some bonus miles after the ride depending on what time we finish and with how many miles.
