Wanted: 559 wheels
Jan 9th, 2011, 3:33pm

Looking for a good set of 559 wheels to put on my Strada, preferably with 130mm hubs.  I am planning on running up to Frisco next Saturday, the 15th.  Can pay cash or perhaps trade the 650s I have on now if someone's interested.

I was under the impression that 559s "naturally" came with 135s...???

559s do, but if you're replacing 571s, you need a road rear hub instead of the MTB rear hub, hence the request for the 130 mm OLD instead of the 135. I'm still wondering how he plans to stop the beast after moving the braking surface 6mm away from the pads. Most sidepull calipers don't have that much range in their adjustment, and most bikes that run 571s don't use linear pull brakes.

Okay, now I'm confused.  650s are on the bike now.  No 571s that I know of and the dropouts are 130mm.  I bought the Strada istead of the Corsa because you could SUPPOSEDLY swap in 26" wheels and wider tires, which I really need on the chipseal here.  The catch turns out to be that you can use 26" wheels ONLY with 130mm hubs.  And I'm told the brakes do have just enough adjustment in them but I won't get too excited until I see it for myself.  I could pull the hubs from my 650s and try to lace them to a pair of WalMart mountain bike rims but I'd prefer to have a better quality wheel and keep my 650s to swap back in for a faster ride on nice roads (if there's any such think left out there).  Thus, the need for a good set of 559 wheels with 130mm hubs.  If nobody's got 'em, I'll build 'em.  I just thought I'd check first.  Thanks!

OK, 650 C wheels are 571mm, 26" wheels are 559mm. Sometimes 571mm wheels are called 26", but they're not the same as the wheels used on 26" bikes. Plus there is a 26" x 1 3/8 tire that fits a 571mm rim, but 650 tires are not the same as 26 x 1 3/8 " tires and neither are their rims. Smiley Confused yet?

Ask Terry Pickl how to adjust the brakes when swapping out wheel sizes...  Cheesy

My buddy Dave who bought the StratusXP from Thomas may still have the wheels that were on it -- I'll give him a call -- what's your email address, if you haven't purchased something already.?
