If your Cateye was set based on the appropriate tire circumference (in millimeters) listed in the table in the setting instructions, the speed readings are not going to necessarily be accurate. You need to go into the Cateye's setup mode and make some trial changes to the circumference value, until the displayed speeds match those on the Garmin's display. The generally accepted accuracy of consumer Garmin GPS's seems to be +/- 0.45 mph on level, straight runs.
