On the trail of Lee Harvey Oswald ride
Oct 17th, 2010, 10:16pm

Not a very long ride, nor a very fast ride. Basically a ride from the 6th Floor Museum to the Texas Theater, with another stop at a house Oswald lived in once on the way back, that retraced Oswald's "alleged" escape from police after Kennedy was shot. He didn't get very far that day so the ride wasn't very far either. There was a beer break at Eno's (or sodas from the store across the street where they sold nickel Cokes for $1.67 after tax) before the visit to the house Oswald lived in before he went to New Orleans and where the famous picture of Oswald with the guns and "alleged" commie propaganda was taken. Interesting ride, kinda slow, with interesting bikes.

Yep, the history rides are not generally long and the pace is leisurely, but considering the bulk of the riders, thats the way it should be. Lots of cruiser bikes and spandex held to a minimum,  these rides are just for fun. I couldn't make it this year 'cause I got  last minute ticket to the Music Hall. Looked like a great day for a ride.

I wish I could have rode this ride.  Are there any more of these rides scheduled?

They don't seem to have scheduled a Halloween Ride this year, which is a pity. The next one on the schedule is the 2nd Annual Tweed Ride, November 21.

I noticed that helmets were not very popular on this ride

The rides are very casual and, unlike most organized rides, they don't require helmets. Lots of the "hip" crowd think helmets are "uncool" but many of them think a 1 mile ride is a really long distance, too. DPD rarely writes tickets to cyclists without helmets in our neighborhood.
